Default CEL light diagnosis

Hi all - orange CEL came on the day after a dealership oil change. I have an appt to take it back in but anyone know if any of my local auto parts stores in the US can scan the error code for me in the meantime?

Unfortunately, auto parts stores do not carry sophisticated scan tools. At best, they typically offer a basic OBD2 scanner that will be able to read simple codes with little insight or analysis. On a modern vehicle you need to be able to conduct some diagnostics and read lives data, as well as have an understanding of what's a false lead vs a true issue.

What would you do if you knew you had an out of spec coolant sensor reading, resistance issue, compressor temp issue, etc etc? If the vehicle is under warranty let the retailer handle it. If you're out of warranty and you are handy with repairs then consider investing in either something like a BlueDriver (if you're on a low budget) or an Autel system (if you don't mind spending the money). Just don't expect too much insight at the auto parts stores.

Thanks and i agree it will be going in to the dealership shortly. In the meantime, i had a neighborhood parts shop quickly scan it yesterday and it read code P0162 - O2 Circuit (Bank 2, Sensor 3). They told me that I can expect it to just be a bad O2 sensor. I've read some feedback on the forum somewhere that this might be covered by a LR extended emissions warranty. I'm hoping that's true
