Default Climate Systems

Hi, I've read many posts stating the 4 zone was a necessary upgrade for 3 row trucks but haven't been able to find any posts stating why it made life easier on the rear passengers over the 3 zone system. Tbh, I'd assume the 4 zone was for each second row passenger to have individual controls like the front ones.

All help appreciated as looking to a new build

Thanks

edit: I just came across an original 2017 post that spoke about only 4 zone systems having vents in the rear area, not sure if this was/is the same issue referenced in later posts.

My understanding is that the 3 zone has fewer vents in both the second and third row, and only one fan blower. The 4 zone has more vents in the back and a second fan blower (controlled for the rear of the car).

Mixed views on whether you need 4 zone or not (I got it as I optioned mine new). But from what I've read if you are in a v hot region and use the rear for carrying passengers, then it is prob worth going for 4 zone.

The 2nd row vents in the 3 zone are totally inadequate for passengers in hot climates. Especially if the vehicle is already hot.

The 4 zone has lots more vents.

OK, good to know the root of the issue.

I only get a couple of scorching days here but we get very cold ones and I'd guess a freezing truck wouldn't be too pleasant either.
I remember having a van years ago that had a second blower and AC evaporator and it was very comfortable.

Thanks for your input, that's enough to warrant the cost of the upgrade from 3 zones.

It's the right call. Also, the 4 zone has a second blower and evap unit as well that fills one of the side wells in the cargo area.

I opted for the 4 zone because of... the dog! Would you believe it? In fact, the reason I chose the Discovery was...FOR THE DOG! Anyway, I wanted extra air circulation back there for him. He’s a Rottweiler and overheats easily.
