D V Trailering Data

Just made the first long trip with the D V diesel and the trailer. 210 miles each way between Austin and Dallas. Mostly flat. 2017 with factory tow package. Montrose aluminum trailer which has a steep sloped front. With car and “stuff” weighs just under 4500 lbs. Drove 65 or 70 depending on road and traffic.

Observations:

1) load leveling of the air suspension worked perfectly

2) was generally stable towing although you feel a frequent small sway or twitch. I am guessing this is the anti sway control? I got used to it after a while and just ignored it. When a semi passes at 70 mph you can feel a slight push/twitch but nothing to be concerned with.

3) 14.8 mpg. Outstanding. When I used a Ram 2500 it only got 11ish. Audi Q7 TDI got 10 to 12.

Bottom line is that I am impressed and happy with it towing.

I had the same experience, though I chalked it up to the shorter wheelbase being more prone to sway. My trailer by itself is 4,500 lbs, so it's a fair amount of weight behind a shorter wheelbase. I was previously towing with a diesel 2500 crew cab with long bed, which doesn't notice the trailer at all, and a Honda Ridgeline which gets bounced all over the road and struggles with any incline. I wish there was an indicator light that let you know when the anti-sway was actively trying to counter any sway so that you would know for certain what the small sways were. The first few times it was a quick whoa, then right back to normal and I also just got used to it.
I did just pick up a hitch with a 3" drop because the receiver sits higher in the Discovery (I guess by design to maximize the climb angle for off-road) just to get it closer to level from the get-go. I'll use that when I take the trailer out next weekend.
No complains about 15mpg towing though.

I just towed a Pathfinder 2200v boat about 45min to my bay home. Not sure the weight. Towed great but I did notice it had a bone on none feel. Like the hitch making noise like I thought the trailer was going to come off. Got out and checked it twice and everything was fine. Maybe because the frame is unibody so there’s no rubber cushion between frame and cab like on a pickup.

I honestly dont get the options for towing. Do you guys just put it in sport mode? All the backup features I can’t seem to get to work it’s such a pain messing with it. All my life I’ve been towing and backing up trailers and haven’t needed it yet but I did want to give it a try.
