Door Latch Recall 23V-393
Just got notice of NHTSA recall for doors opening while driving. This happened on our 2017 LH rear door while my wife was driving ours in 2021. The notice says that JLR will disable the Unilatch Keyless vehicle system. I'm unsure what that means but when I replaced the latch on ours the latch was completely failed, it wouldn't latch at all. I don't understand how a feature disablement would have avoided a latch failure. I ended up replacing that latch and the RH front and rear latch assemblies, not because the latches broke, but because they would no longer lock.

I got the same letter yesterday. I also wondering what happens when they disable the "unilatch" keyless entry on the rear doors. Does anyone know what unilatch really is? It doesn't really sit well with me to give up a useful feature when the factory should be on the hook to provide an actual fix.

Josh let us know what LRFW says on this. I am going to try to head down to LR Houston North in the next few days and see if they will do the same including the update for the stereo.

Update…
went to drop off D5 this morning and service advisor said that JLR has not sent them instructions on what to fix. He has had several people come in but has no solution issued. His thoughts were that JLR sent all these recall notices out too early, i could sense his frustration. Service advisor gave me his direct phone line and said call back in 2 weeks to see if JLR has given them directions on fixing the issue. He did say once the car comes in for the recall fix, he would check for software updates free of charge.
It’s a wait game now….

I was at the dealer 2 weeks ago for an oil change and they asked me if I wanted to have my 2017 HSE fixed under this recall. They will only disable the passive lock/unlock for the rear doors. I don't believe there is any hardware to replace. I declined I've not had any issues with mine. It has something to do with water damage to the lock mechanism in the rear doors.
