Default DPF throwing codes and needs replacing?

So, I had the D5 Td6 in for service. I'd also been having the CEL on. I found that when I did regen cycles that the CEL only stayed off for a few days. The dealer said the it was throwing two codes, both related to the DPF. They suggested that it was getting "too clogged up" and needed to be replaced to the tune of $4,400. As a kicker, the part is on back order.

The vehicle has 80k miles and no extended warranty, but shouldn't something like this be covered under the emissions warranty or something?

Would love to hear from anyone who's dealt with this or similar.

Thanks

In the exact same situation. 56k miles and warranty up 2 months ago. This part is $1,500 for F150s, $4,700 quot from LR is insanity.

I know on the 2020 and newer vehicles all emissions are covered 8 years and 80k miles, I dont know if it was retroative on previous models.

Yeah. Frustrating.

Interestingly, I haven't had any of the "reduced performance" restrictions with this. Just the CEL light.

Part of me just thinks that as long as I can live with the embarrassment of having the CEL light on that I may let it go for bit.

I know there are companies in Europe that can completely tune out the DPF, have you researched that here at all? A tune that goes to 300hp, no lag, and 550ftlbs AND fix the DPF problem for $1k would be more than worth it.

Yeah theres no performance problems for me either. I guess maybe if it was completely plugged it might.

Hmmm.

Would be worth checking out. Although the DPF is a physical part of the exhaust chain and I would think that it *could get clogged and hurt performance? Would still be nice to have the CEL turned off.

Have you looked into it? Any leads?

Quick search turned up this one:

Looks like you need to physically remove the DPF

So, update on this.

I believe I may have found an alternative solution. Having the DPF professionally cleaned.

Since my dealer wants $4,400 AND the part is back ordered, I discovered that there is a whole diesel industry around cleaning these units. They usually service big rigs, but some near me also service pick up trucks and cars. Pricing seems to range between $900-$1,000 out the door.

Ok, here's an update:

I've found a couple of fuel additives that I'm going to give a go prior to a "deeper" cleaning of the DPF.

I found the US distributor for JLM's line of diesel products that get very high marks. https://www.dpfglobe.com/diesel-addi...stributor-usa/

I'm going to go with the DPF Cleaner first, followed by regularly adding Regen Plus since lately much of my driving is shorter trips where regular regen can't take place efficiently.

If neither of these help significantly, I'll use their cleaning products where you directly inject a cleaning solution into the DPF and give that a go. Either way, I'll probably keep using the Regen Plus additive to help prevent further issues.

Update:

Put the DPF Cleaner in the take over a week ago. Within two days the CEL turned off and hasn't returned since. I still have about 1/4 of a tank left with the cleaner in it.

While using the cleaner I've been manually shifting up and down to try and keep RPM's at around 2k so that in slower traffic I'm still getting enough hot exhaust passing through as if I were driving faster.

Fingers crossed.....
