Default Inner Tailgate Cable Wear

My inner tailgate, the one that is the little platform which lowers after the main hatch has open, has cables which now have their plastic sheath stripped, especially at the hole when lowered. I'm assuming I have to replace them.

Does anyone have a part number for these, I may as well replace both.

Thanks!

Ok I found the part numbers:

RH: LR082847
LH: LR082849

Not cheap - so I might try and do a repair first.

Repair was effected using a replacement new unit which cost $172.

I just noticed the cable sheath in the middle of my right hand side has torn (2019 Disco). Thanks for your post showing the part numbers to use. How quick or easy (or hard) was it to replace on your own?

For others in the group, any experience or thoughts on urgency to repair? Trying to think how much wear and tear this might cause to the mechanism if not repaired right away.

Default Assembly Etc.

It’s very easy to fit. Just slide the rubber boot back and disconnect the cable from the wall, after first removing the clip. Then take out the 2x fasteners and slide the whole unit out of the tailgate.

The plastic seath on mine had pieces jammed in the unit and cable wouldn’t retract anymore. If I were you I’d trim the torn section off the cable and keep using it if the cosmetics don’t bother you.

Good to hear it's easy!

Makes a lot of sense. I already cut the torn sheath back and will keep an eye on it for further tears. Allows me to buy some more time before giving in and purchasing a new unit.

Please provide a photo of the replacement part or the old one you removed. Does it just come with cables or the motor too or that entire piece that screws to the edge of the tailgate? Thanks.

Here's the only other picture I have. The unit is a white tube with the chrome fitting for mounting to the inner tailgate. There's a self-retracting cable inside it, which comes out when the tailgate is lowered. THERE IS NO MOTOR.

Thank you, So now I wonder what pulls the cable in or lets it out when I push the electrical switch.

IIRC there's a spring inside the tube
