So I looked everywhere for install instructions and videos for installing the rod lifts with not much luck. I went ahead and figured it out with no real issues and thought I’d video one side of the install for anyone else that wanted to see what was involved and how it changed the look of the vehicle in the different suspension height settings for Land Rovers equipped with the adjustable suspension. It’s a little long but I think its pretty comprehensive. I upgraded to 275-55-20 Hankook Tires and I’m happy with the ride and how quiet they are. I’m far from professional so please excuse the awkward pauses and poor transitions . It’s my first attempt at this with an i phone. Here’s the link.

I think you should be very careful prying off the end that connects to the position sensor arm. I held that arm in one hand to be sure not to damage it. I used a golf divot repair tool to pry off my old rods. One of the divot tools slots was too narrow but another was just right. A thicker, plastic tool worked better than the thinner metal ones. The blue pry bar shown in the video appears to be from an inexpensive set available from Harbor Freight Tools. A very handy set to have.

 

I ended up using two hands and no pry bar on the sensor end as well. It's the more delicate part to remove for sure. The blue plastic pry tool came from a set I bought on Amazon for a few bucks a while back. They are handy to have.

I found it is easier to raise the D5 to offroad height before putting in a jack to remove the wheel.

 

Love the look . . . One thing I am curious about is that, even after adding the 275/55 Yoko G015s, I am amazed how "planted" this vehicle seems at speed. Now, it's not planted like my Pepper or the Q5 but, for a taller and heavier SUV, the ride and handling feel at speed is quite refined. Was wondering about any thoughts on what this mod does to that?

 

I haven't had it on the interstate since the new tires and lift were installed, so can't really answer. I also still need to have it aligned to adjust the camber. But, I have had it up to 65mph or so and I really can't tell any difference in handling from the original set up. Still seems very planted to me.

 

I have the 275/55 Yoko G015s and the Johnson Rod lift and didn't notice any degradation in the handling or ride. In fact, with these tires it is much more solid over road imperfections, pot holes, sunken manholes, etc. than with the stock Goodyear tires.

 

Are you guys running on Normal or Comfort tire pressure?
