Lazy guy question. Whats the general consensus on the diesel

Some windshields leak (not specific to the diesel). Laggy acceleration from a rolling stop, even after the latest updates. (Seems to be fixable via aftermarket controller.) DPFs tend to clog up and throw CELs. The "fix" is for the dealer to update the computer to more aggressively regen. The low DEF warning message comes on 1,500 miles before you'll run out, which is excessive and annoying. There's a reason LR dropped the diesel engine. If you're going to frequently tow heavy loads the engine seems to do great, but for more typical commuting and shopping use it doesn't seem fit for purpose.

Since you have a D2 it sounds you know what you're doing and getting, you'll be alright: the very same TD they put in the full fat and sport Rangeys. DIY the DEF every now and then, haul or highway somewhat regularly. We do both & been very happy. On the highway bit this is our frequent jaunt from the coast over two good size mountain ranges (all in KMs, and L/100KM). We've come close to 1000KM on a tank a few times.
Duration (HH:MM) Distance(km) Efficiency(N/A) Average speed(N/A)
3:12 359 8.6 (~27MPG) 114
3:21 337.9 7.8 102
2:09 240.8 7.5 114
2:18 212 7.8 93
2:08 211.3 7.5 (~31MPG) 100

Until EV can get me 500 miles without a recharge, and we get abundant recharge stations out here in the "middle sticks", I don't know what is better than turbo diesel. Despite having the worst service department in the history of service departments [and there were 2 other dealers previously that really sucked at it too], we still may well buy the residual on this when the lease clock is up. Our "since we got it to date" mpg average is 26.7.

We have a 2017 Diesel Disco HSE. The towing capacity is what originally made us look at the Disco, but we have loved the vehicle since purchase. Little annoyances like the windshield replacement and Infotainment center upgrade (make sure this has been completed before you purchase). As others have shared, the mileage you get seals the deal. We regularly travel from the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe to Western Sonoma County, CA and back on a single tank. Good luck.

It is t the diesel that people complain about. It's the general Land Rover America customer service. I've had more issues with the infotainment than the motor. I regularly tow a 26' center console 300 miles with no issues.
The reason LR abandoned them is the same reason dropped them in the f150. Lack of demand and low gas prices. In some area diesel was a .40/gallon difference. Now in the days of $3.50 gas that has dropped to less than .10. I won't give up my diesel, but I also have a smaller coupe I drive everyday, just because I like twisty roads. For long hauls and towing the Disco out outperforms my old F150 triton and Chevy Tahoe.

You might want to get your truck looked at by another dealer. I don't find acceleration laggy.
I might be biased, left the brand in 2010 waiting for the LR4 diesel to replace our LR3. We got our 19 TD knowing the excellent D350 was coming and now will either hold on or look at alternatives.

Just picked up a 2018 TD6 3 months ago and have already put 6K miles on it. Been trouble free for us so far and I'm expecting it to mostly stay that way. I was coming from an LR4 that I absolutely loved, but couldn't get over the supercharged V6 engine that always felt like it was starved for torque and couldn't get more than 15-16mpg. We tow a wake boat and do long road trips. If not for those 2 things, I would've stuck with the LR4, but so far the turbo diesel is the answer in these cars to me. 26mpg cruising all day long at 85mph with almost no downshifting in Utah mountains. Acceleration has a small amount of turbo lag when you first step on the pedal, but after that initial hesitation I find it to be fairly spritely.
