Completely different platforms. D5 is on the D7u platform, a RWD-based longitudinal architecture built from the ground-up to offer all of the off-road hardware, with the option to have air suspension, a two-speed transfer case, and available locking center and rear differentials (some D5 and RRS models come with a Torsen center diff). the 2015-2019 model years are on the D8 platform, a FWD transverse architecture that is based on the Ford EUCD platform shared with cars such as the old LR2, every previous-generation Volvo product, as well as the European Ford Mondeo. 2020+ Disco Sports are on the PTA (Premium Transverse Architecture) platform, a heavily-revised version of the D8 platform that allows electrification. Disco Sport doesn't have the proper hardware, such as a two-speed transfer case, full-time 4WD, or air suspension. Early models use a Haldex AWD system, and staring in 2016, it went to a more advanced GKN Active Driveline AWD system with torque vectoring rear differential.
