Swapping out USB-A charging ports for 12V or USB-C
I want to change my 2nd row USB-A charging ports to the traditional 12V charging ports. Since my 2018 Disco HSE Lux TD6 came with the USB-A charging ports, the dealership states my vin does not allow the 12v charging ports to be ordered, with no explanation as to why? My assumption is the vehicle runs 12V throughout and the USB-A chargers have a built in reducer reducing the voltage to 5 volts. I can't see why switching to a traditional 12v or USB-C charging port would be an issue. I have tried to see if I can open a request with Land Rover electrical engineering, but no such luck. In less than 5 years, the USB-A charging ports at 12 watts are already becoming obsolete and upgrading to the traditional 12V or USB-C seems like it logical path for just about anyone. 12V makes the most sense as it offers the most wattage and flexibility to plug in any adapter one chooses with high wattage. Has anyone experienced swapping these charging ports out or have knowledge if the charging ports are swappable and plug and pay? Thanks.

Great video, learned a lot. Unfortunately that is going from 12v to USB-A. I am trying from USB-A to 12v and that is an increase in power, not a reduction. I also sent him my question. I think there might be an issue on fuse, but then again, I believe there is only one fuse for that center console wiring harness, but I could be wrong. Thanks.

And to Spider - I have not found a solution for this yet. I tried calling car audio electronic places They all say they are happy to take a look and charge me, but they have not know what can be done at this point.

for now i ended up buying 10ft long usb c cable and 12v to usb c adapter for the socket in the trunk/boot next to the buttons on the left so the kids can charge their ipads in the middle row. Socket at the back is 12v, will give you enough power for the usb c. Middle row ones are only 5v.
Looks like the adapters are exchangeable between usb a and c. Now the question is if the adapter itself cutting the power down to 1 Amp and by changing this socket to usb c i will get more Amps or is there some other module managing the power management to these sockets?
