I’m at 23k miles, lots of towing, stock tires looking worn. I want to go the 275/55r20 route. I drive almost all highway but want an all terrain. I live in Houston and frequent the beach, hunting from time to time, and want a durable tire that’s quiet on the highway. Doesn’t have to be the absolute best off road, just durable. The AT that came with it sucked by design and still worked ok.
I'm looking to get AT tires, too. There's obviously a slight change in diameter going from 255/55r20 to 275/55r20, but can you put 275s on the stock 255 rims?

You’ll also by traveling 2.8% faster than the speedometer says, so neatly 72mph when it says 70mph. Not a big deal but just worth noting if your gauge is accurate and you tend to drive slightly over the limit and have strict cops...
I bought 255/75/20 Hankook’s and love them. I drive 70% highway and these are the quietest All terrain tires I’ve ever had. Had a set on my Yukon as well as this D5. Exceptionally good towing as well. I have 15000 miles on them now and still very quiet with an aggressive look but not as aggressive as the Nittos that everybody seems to run . I got over 50,000 miles out of them on my Yukon. Great tire and I’m really picky. OEM Pirellis’s are in the garage brand new. . I have a 2.5 inch Johnson lift.
A friend had those Hankooks on his Touareg and loved them too. His were just SL rated. I would still want XLs but that's me. I still love these Yoko Geolanders despite someone reporting expecting less than advertised tire life. We are just at 12K so I cannot comment on that yet. The Cooper AT3s on my lightweight Tacoma are about 1/2 worn at about 15K so I will likely be buying something different for it at 25K or so?
We ran the Hankooks on the LR3 and the wore like iron and did fantastic as a daily tire with a bit of off road capability.
Next set may be the Scorpion AT Plus. I had scorpion ATs years ago on my RRC and they were fantastic.
If you read on the new AT plus that’s what sold me. Pirelli made them start on a racetrack to review them. Said with people 90% on the road they wanted to focus on an AT that handled it great. They got great reviews and are e rated so tomorrow when they arrive they go on my guy. A whole different animal from the previous AT.
