Last week I was involved in an accident that totaled my 2018 D5. A minivan ran a red light and hit me broadside going pretty fast. I'd say at least 40mph and maybe faster. I don't think he ever hit the brakes. Hit me hard enough to push me about 12 ft sideways into the next turn lane. I never saw it coming. Seat and curtain airbags deployed and I walked away with some neck problems and air bag burns and bruises on my side and a sore foot...but nothing broken. The doors and lower rocker panel is pushed into the cabin about a foot and a half and not reparable. I have to say that I'm really glad I was in this vehicle and not something else. I'm sure my injuries would have been more significant given the violence of the crash. Now looking at replacement and it will definitely be another Discovery . Probably diesel this time. The only thing harder to find than a reasonably priced diesel D5 is one that has a hitch and Acorn interior. Heres some pics for those that are interested.

I have a friend who fell asleep driving an LR4 - rolled it with his wife in the passenger seat and two kids in the back seat in car seats. They all walked away, and he vowed never to drive anything but a Discovery ever again. He also vowed not to drive while drowsy.
Anyway, wow.

I was reading an interesting article about the Land Rover's crash ratings.
It was to the effect that they only do the Euro NCAP testing and never do the North American testing.
Land Rover has the lowest vehicle fatalities of any major SUV manufacturer.
They are also at the bottom (in a good way) of the list for injuries, both minor and major.

Yep, my wife was really concerned because she hadn’t heard anything about LR safety ratings. After digging around, they use a clause in the regs that substitutes the European testing for US because they don’t sell enough cars here to pass the threshold for NHTSA testing. That said, they ace the European safety tests. After I explained that, she was on board
Looks like it did well. Cool (in a glad you are safe and everything is ok and of course I wish it had never happened kind of way) to see the after photos of the damage and how it reacted. Certainly proves that they are safe vehicles and worthy of dual thumbs up for that.
Thanks for all the well wishes and Kind thoughts. Still doing regular visits to the chiropractor but I can say for certain that the D5 is about as safe as you can be in an SUV. Pretty much settled in on another one. Just waiting for insurance to finish up. They don't like totaling Brand new SUV's over 50K. On #3 of 4 sets of approvals. Process is longer than what I expected.
