Default Window regulator replacement

I just got home and I rolled down the window to talk to my son and bam the window wouldn't go back up. I quickly figured it was the window regulator on the passenger side, So I called Land rover to ask them and they said $750 Canadian for a window regulator and I said hell no. So I went to the aftermarket and got one with some pretty good reviews for being an aftermarket regulator. I've heard on the forums that it's a pretty easy job but I've never changed a window regulator before and would appreciate some instructions on how to do it and also how to reset the windows after it's done. My toyota which is 22 years old never had a window regulator go out so looking for more help. Thanks

Hardest part is knowing where the door panel screws are, linked below (front door panel screws are in the same location) Once those are removed just us a plastic panel removal tool to free up the push in clips. Get the tool as close to the clips as possible when you pry and do not pull on the door pocket/cupholder because it will break the panel. Buy extra panel clips because you will have some break when taking the door panel off. Once the panel off regulator change is straight forward.

Yeah, I have a 35 year old BMW on the original regulators. Reality is most modern cars use cable vs gear systems used in the past.

The attached files from the workshop manual should be helpful getting the job done.

Thanks for all the help Ryan. I will be attempting this on Saturday I will let you know how it goes. Just to be clear to remove the window it says needs special tool is that really necessary or are there any alternatives to it.

I know I didn't use any special tools. I don't recall having you remove the window completely, but my memory sucks and it's been a couple years.

The other Ryan seems to have more hands on experience to assist, I have only tinkered on the LR3 and haven't had to work on my D5 yet. I am just trying to make use of the shop manual.

Here is a troubleshooting guide as well.

Hey man, I had to do three of them haha. Hardest part is definitely figuring out how to take the door panels out without losing tabs.

First one will take you 4 hours, second one will take you 45 minutes. You've got this!

Reviving this thread on a related topic - replacing the window cable.

The regulator works fine and I have found the cable has a broken strand and bunches up in the rollers, this it gets stuck (always in the down position). Does anyone have an idea on the replacing the cable? I have the panels out but cannot dig into the door well enough to see how the cable winds around. Any guidance is appreciated.

That's how they normally break. The cable in the motor/regulator assembly breaks. Replacing the cable alone isn't an option. You'll have to source the entire assembly. Really not a hard job. Threads for removing the panel and regulator are on this site. Best of luck.
