Default 00 Disco II

Hello, Just got my 2000 LR Disco 2, i call it the black rhino. 163k miles runs good, besides a high pitch whine at low speed, anyone know anything about that?

Welcome to the club. Probably a bearing in one of the pulleys. I have the same truck, same year, a few less miles, but mine has always sounded like the bridge of the starship enterprise. I changed the two idler pulleys and the tensioner pulley about a week ago and the sound is gone (I miss it.. Seriously). And, of course, now I can hear other sounds like a slight exhaust leak. I live where rovers are very rare and exotic, and thought they were supposed to make that hum. They aren't.

Total cost about 80 bucks for all pulleys online. Time to change all three about 30 minutes. Silence from pulley job... Somewhat priceless.

Best,

Charlie V

You could find out if it is the pulleys by removing the fan shroud (four screws) and the fan (one giant nut), and the belt, then running it for a very, very short time (no oil or coolant pump going, so very short time like 20 seconds or less) . Take a listen and that's probably the issue.

Best,
