1999 Discovery--the anti-theft system prevents me from starting the car
Any help?
The anti-theft system--the ignition kill switch--stops me from starting the car. This happens for weeks on end, and then works fine for weeks, with no apparent pattern. I turn the ignition key, and-- either nothing at all, or the first brief effort to turn over, then nothing. To get the car to start, I have to unlock and lock the front doors and rear gate over and over, opening and closing them, all the while switching up the pattern, in an effort to confuse the computer's overactive mind. My friends have named this astonishing procedure "the secret handshake." It takes up to five endless minutes. Then the car, for no apparent reason, will start.
I live north of Seattle, and so far have not been caught in a drenching downpour, but it's just a question of time.
I can't take it any more. Any ideas?
