Default 1st time / May buy a Land Rover / Questions

Hello, Its my 1st time on this site and I know absolutely nothing about Land Rovers.... other than they look pretty cool. I may be interested in buying one, but have only heard negative comments about them... nothing specific ... only that they guzzle gas, either break down a lot or are costly to fix.

Are there some general pro's and con's to owning Land Rovers?

I am mechanically inclined and prefer to fix everything I can without taking it to a shop. Usually if I watch a few videos and have to required tools, I am good to go.

Thanks for any info you provide!

Yes, the trucks suck down gas and you are always repairing something. However, all of that is forgotten once you hit the trail. I am still amazed what my stock 2001 year old truck is capable of doing.

Pro's - You will fill your garage with tools, you will perform new mechanical tasks
Con's - Your free time will be divided between repairs and the trails

Sound pretty much like the Jeep syndrome... I just totaled my TJ a few months ago and have been searching for a replacement. I cant believe how much people want for their piles of rust! Came across a few Land Rovers that seem to be priced pretty good.

This was my thought when I bought Tricky Dick....This is a throw away vehicle. Price is low enough that I can walk away at any time. The truck has more character than any other truck (IMO) and I developed a bond with the truck. Not many vehicles can do this, I think. If for no other good reason, buy one so you can at the least say I had a Land Rover and experienced the triumph and agony of a true off road vehicle. By the way the next vehicle on my list is an Alfa.

I would say they are on par with any vehicle out there, especially over one. It really depends on what you are looking to buy. I am very happy with my 2006 LR3. I would not call it a gas guzzler as I can get 18mpg easily, more on long trips if I am not hard on the go-pedal. This is better than the BMW and Benz I had. As for maintenance, again it depends on what you are looking into. But for my old 2006 there has been nothin unexpected and nothing I have been unable to do myself.

How about cost and availability of parts? Can you get most of what you need at the neighborhood parts store? Do you have to order them and wait a few days before they come in?
