2001 Disco leaks coolant yet again
Bought my 2001 Discovery about 5 months ago at a used car lot(shady one at that) When i purchased it i knew,based off of the price, that it was going to need some maintenance. Anyway, it came inspected and it ran great so i thought i didn't have much to worry about. you know other than periodic maintenance. I love this truck and i'm willing, just like everyone else on these forums, to put in my time with repairs and such.
well after driving it for like 8 or 9 days i noticed what looked to be Dexcool in the driveway. took it back to the Stealership to see if they would fix it. Long story short they said they would but i would be responsible for 60% of the bill or what turned out to be $400. They replaced the valley pan gasket changed a couple pulleys and switched to regular coolant. Even though I paid for most of the bill i was still happy because not only do i love this truck i was still only in $4,000. With only 125,000 miles on it and very clean in and out I'm still looking pretty good.
Everything was good vor like a month and then it started leaking again and now it is both coolant and oil. Which i think is was both leaking before as well. So same guy says he will fix it again. performs i guess the same procedure and also changes the thermostat as well as replacing a gasket in the throttle body heater plate. He said to me that the truck sounds awesome and probably has a lot of life still. Well I got back to my house and he's right this truck does sound awesome and seems to be running great. Then I leave the house in the morning to take the kids to school. They are as excited as i am to get the rover back. As I pull away from my spot, just out of habit I look back at my parking spot, to find another effing spot in the driveway. Really!!! It hasn't even been 24hrs. WTF. Somebody please help. What could it be? Oil pump,head gasket, IDK
the leak is dripping from the rear on the rear cross member. I mainly smell coolant, and not sure if it is leaking oil or the coolant is just running over greasy parts and then falling to the ground. What to do?

thank you. I did take it to a reputable garage in the area for a pressure test. he said that it was releasing pressure at the throttle body heater plate hose. also where the pressure release is located, it t's off, towards the coolant filler tank and goes to the thermastat and the other way it goes down and threw the intake manifold. right there where the hose connects to the metal piping is where he said it was leaking. He changed the clamp at the t/b hose and cleaned and tightened at the hose that runs threw the Intake manifold. Now if it was releasing pressure thats one thing but i just fixed these and they may have been releasing pressure but that is definitely not the problem. The leak is coming frome the back bottom part of the motor. perhaps the other end of that pipe that runs threw the intake manifold. any thoughts?
saw a diagram and think it is called the coolant outlet elbow. It looks like it runs by the alternator and into the intake. i think the leak is at the back of the intake where the coolant comes out of the back. IDK
back bottom of engine......prolly just a fuse

or leaking headgasket. uv dye additive in the coolant will help to trace the leak to the source. but pressure test guy should have spotted a head gasket leak

yes i'm pretty sure thats the one i mean. As far as the head gasket...Its not leaking any oil and my oil dipstick is not milky at all...nice looking oil. The drip seems to be coming from the back middle right of the engine cause i see it leaking down the high right side back.
as long as you see it trailing from above the head / block union....probably is up there.
that o ring gets chewed up if it has room to wiggle. might have a look if you are pretty sure that is the source

Thanks so much for your insight. is the o ring in the back of the motor? and i guess to repair this i will have to take off the intake manifold. any tips on doing the job and what else should i do while im doing this?

o ring gets sandwiched behind that plate, but not at back of engine.
rear engine leak from up high, could be valley pan. but really you need to find the source before anything. get $3 worth or uv dye additive junk and put it in there. it will help you find the leak, especially if it is only present at operating temp. I would think if it were as simple as the o ring, the pressure test would have had that sorted out
