About to Dive back into a DISCOVERY II. I need a little push
I am an American living in Morocco. I owned a 1999 LD Disc2 for two years back in the states. I loved that car. It sat up high. I am tall and getting older and don't like the idea of scrunching down or hitting my head when entering a vehicle. Disc2 is a such an easy access for me.
So I am headed today to Marrakesh to buy a Disc2. It is different than the one I owned in the US. First, it is diesel, TD5. Which I like. Also, it seems smaller and there is no sunroof which is a bummer. But I am in for the adventure. I bought my wife a Touareg in September. Now it is my turn. The car is a 2003 Disc 2, 5-spd. One owner in Europe and one owner in Morocco. In good condition and still has the complete owner manual. Engine sounds great, new clutch. Brakes were a little soft, and steering was not perfect. Both, I believe, are correctable. He is asking for $US8,300 which is beaucoup money. But here in Morocco, used cars are expensive because they are not allowed into the country. And Disc2 and Disc1 are rare.
I guess I need some encouragement to take the dive again. I have tried other cars, but the Disc2 just fits me. I cringe at the work to be done on the car and not having a specialist nearby is scary. I will have to find one. I have plenty of time to learn to do the work myself. But that is scary too. The most difficult car work I have done was to change the lifters in an old Saab 900. I did it! So I could work on a Disc2. We have a third backup car, just in case.

Welcome to the forum Kevin.
I hope you are a good mechanic or have access to tools. If memory serves me right from back in my US military days in Tunisia, there weren’t many true Land Rover mechanics in Northern Africa.
Look the Discovery over really good and test drive the crap out of it. If you buy the TD5, definitely invest in a proper Land Rover specific diagnostic tester like a Nanocom. It’ll help you out immensely with electrical faults And fault codes.
