Diesel Disco dummy
Hey all -- Just a quick intro as I dig way deep into the forums (and will continue to do so).
I'm Evan - Colorado-guy. Bought my disturbed dream - 2000 Disco II Td5 (manual).
Drove one decades ago and fell in love. Saw one stateside for sale, had an impulsive moment and now it is here after being shipped halfway across the country. There is a pang of regret when I think about some lost evenings and weekends upcoming...because this could easily end up becoming a real mess. Came to me by way of Italy, so all the manuals are in Italian - my fluency in Spanish is not helping...
I mean, I love it to bits and can't stop smiling when behind the wheel. It's so fun, it's so perfect, it is so random.
Have a bunch of annoying issues to resolve, but as of this moment...it motors around town with no issue.
If you've read this far, thanks! also, here is a list of some upcoming tasks for me:
1. Sorting out the legality of KPH-only instrument cluster in Colorado...and if the news is bad @ DMV, swapping out the cluster (or slapping a sticker on it??). Only has 97k on the clock if my conversion-math is correct. I'm hopeful they realize I won't be speeding (can't speed) and will look the other way when registering.
2. Passenger door lock and actuator -- currently it is a "Driving Miss Daisy" vehicle...only driver and back doors are functional. Need to get it open so I can peek behind the curtain to see if it is just a busted rod or need to replace the entire thing -- and a totally stuck door is not fun.
3. Paint/clear coat -- Fading across the roof and a bit on the hood - either decide to re-spray or repair or just coat it in ceramic and keep the 'patina' -- the sun here will kill what's left...decisions should be made before summer.
4. Horn in rain. Either something is loose or the relay is bad, but rain does appear to impact the horn's utility (glad it doesn't rain much here?)
5. Front cup holder conversion (very serious). I don't own a thermos thin enough to fit into the cup holder. Given 5am ice time and an addiction to coffee...need to either figure out an attachment or go buy a new mug. right now I am left reaching back into the 2nd row to grab a cuppa from the holders there, which seem to be significantly larger.
6. One dull, one shiny headlight. I suppose they should match...
7. Single stream washer sprayer. Just on driver's side. Either a clog or something broke...only delivers 25% of window coverage.
8. Brakes - work if you press twice. first press is a bit soft...but lift and re-press and the entire system is much better. I assume there may be some air in there given it went from sea-level up to 7000ft.
9. Dog ramp -- my big dude, Nickel, is getting on in years and got fat when I was not paying attention and I need to make him a ramp. He's 120lbs...
That's it, new friends. I am more excited than you can imagine to see her in the garage. More joyous than wedding night puttering around town. Thanks for having me, don't be a stranger - feel free to call me all the crazy for hopping on this new midlife crisis. Once I get the cottonwood snow off it and give it a nice wash, I'll put some photos up.
If you have any advice, have at it - been wrenching a variety of silly cars for a while...this is my first foray into Rovers...
