Default Gear fault issues

I'm having an issue with my 2010 range Rover she not going into gear. When I start it , the car doesn't recognize it's in park. So it won't shift. Let it run a little while and then the (P) pops up on the dash and i can shift into drive. Half the time when I shift into drive it kicks really hard and only drives in 2nd gear and won't change. When it shifts correctly it drives just fine. Then when I get to my destination and put it park, the car says " park gear not engaged" and I have to fight put the e brake on and fight it to turn it off. I read somewhere on here that someone was having a similar issue and they fixed this issue by rotating the tires and checking the brakes? Can someone help with this issue. The mechanics in my area are clueless as to what to do.
