Smile Greetings

Picked up a 98 Disco, high miles (175K) but runs strong.

I was mostly a jeep guy, but fell in love with rovers when I was in Iraq in '06-'07 (Albanian SF I was working with had soft back defender TDi's).

I'm sure I'll be asking some way stupid questions, just chalk it up to PTSD!

Currently in Germany, so not sure how getting parts will be.

So far, changed some oil lines, replaced the vasuum lines, and valve cover gaskets.

Got a bad seal on the steering box shaft, not sure if like a wrangler you have to replace the box, or there is a seal replacement.

anyhow, this stuff is for the tech area, just a hello and hope to make some good aquaintances here.

Welcome, LostJohn!

I have a 97 Disco and I love it.

Some of the more seasoned guys on this site might have a better idea of where to get parts in Germany, but Atlantic-British might be a good place to start. You have to call them when ordering internationally (shipping is obviously more expensive so they need to calculate it based on your location), but they have pretty much anything you will need.

And they sell a seal kit for the steering box, so it seems (and you should verify this with the Rover veterans here) you can replace them.

Here is the kit: http://www.roverparts.com/Parts/STC2847.cfm

Happy Rovering!

Hello Chris

Good to meet you.

Thanks for pointing me to the seal kit. I do need a bit of experience advice, as I tried this on a Jeep box once, the fix lasted less than 2 months, and I still had to buy a 900.00 dollar steering box. (shaft was burred and tore the new seal out)
