Default Greetings from SoCal

I'm a new Land Rover Discovery (diesel) owner in Southern California after an exhaustive search for an SUV that would
  • Normally carry 4 people, a dog, and gear ...but occasionally carry 6 or 7 people
  • Tow a camping trailer
  • Have strong off-road capabilities
  • Not handle and park like a container ship
Towing seemed to be the biggest challenge as there only seems to be reasonably sized off-road capable SUVs that won't tow well, or giant behemoths ...not a lot of in-between. I landed on the Discovery after a number of people suggested I pick up a used LR4, only to find out that the Discovery is the LR5. Thus far I've been pretty impressed with all the capabilities of the truck and it definitely hit all my points. I can't wait to get it out to Moab as soon as the dealer gets the tow hitch on (whoever is in charge of ordering local diesels has somehow managed to skip the towing option on almost all of them).

Discovery 3 and Discovery 4 towed just fine, Discovery 1 and 2 can even tow. the LR(X) nomenclature is just to make Americans forget about the Discovery 2 era of bad reliability.

Welcome nonetheless, good on you for getting the diesel
