Hello from Nor Cal (and questions)
Hello all!
My name is Ed, and I'm a midwest transplant to the NorCal area. I've been a DIY'er for years, and offroading with Toys and domestics since I was a little tyke.
I was a huge fan of watching wildlife and geological documentaries as a kid, so the whole Land Rover bug has been with me a long time. I'm finally deciding to go ahead and satiate that desire, so I've dug through piles of threads, articles and such over the past year, and am about to bite the bullet.
Primarily looking at a Disco II, an 04 ideally, simply because the "three amigos" don't seem like a huge undertaking, and it's the design/style the wife seems to dislike the least
I'm not terribly worried about things like headgaskets and such, as those are jobs I've tackled in other old and modern motors without too much trouble. The Disco worried me a bit in the fact it seems like there is no real "fix" for the issue, other than dumping the coolant every other year like you should anyway. I don't, however, really feel like doing that right out of the gate, as I'd rather put some of the initial money into body protection and winching gear.
So I guess where my question really stands, is I've found an 04 Disco that looks like it was an onroad queen for all 120,000 miles of its life. Things look super clean and well taken care of. However, the ad doesn't mention anything about the front driveshaft being properly fixed, or if it had ever had head work done to it. The asking price? $6500.
Normally, I'd not consider that too bad for something as clean as it is, I mean we're talking near perfect interior, and the body I'd rate a 9/10 (few tiny dings from doors I'm guessing.) However, the lack of any mention of what has been taken care of in the description has spooked me a bit on the price.
I'm going to call, and see if they have any records or any idea, but I was wondering what everyone here was thinking of the price? It is the 7 passenger model. NADA looks to be around 4 for a nice one, and that'd be a lot easier to swallow if I was going to turn around and need to do the headgaskets in the first 20k miles I had it. Is that about the right thinking? Or has the 04 been demanding a far higher price being the last year and all?
Thanks!
