Hello From Tennessee
Just bought a 2003 Disco with 117k miles. Hunter green, with the clearcoat faded and chalky on the top. Planning on Plasticoating it black, along with the rims later this week, and tacking some molded metal to the back bumper to cover a huge busted spot on the right hand side; it's going to look sharp. Most of the exterior plastic components are busted or dried out. The front bumper is cracked in two places, the windshield posts are both cracked at the top, one of the endcaps on the back is missing completely, the breather cover under the windshield is also cracked. The fender flares look terrible. Probably going to take them off altogether.
Under the hood, it looks like it has a new air filter housing. The radiator hoses look brand new, but there is a slight anti-freeze smell after it gets driven a while. any ideas?
The infamous tick, tick, tick is there. Does this become a problem?
I've read about the oil pump problems in a certain VIN # range, but I can't find said range. Where do I look, guys? How do I know if the oil pump has been worked on?
It looks like several things on this dude have been worked on. The ABS housing and the wire harness look brand new, so I'm assuming this dude had a visit by the Three Amigos at some point.
Going to change the oil today, Castrol GTX 10w-40 and a Mobil 1 filter, and a shot of Lucas Oil additive to clean it up a bit. While I'm under there, I'm going to look at the drive shafts. I'm hoping I won't need to replace them. I'm hoping that, given the apparent previous work it has had, those were replaced also. What do I need to look for under there?
Thanks for all your work on this site. I've been lurking about the last few weeks since I bought it, and you guys are legit. I'm excited to be a part of Land Rovertown. Incidentally, the little community I live in is called Rover.
