Unhappy Hi all, New to owning discovery , I am learning .

Gearbox, transfer case probs?????
Hi,
So I purchased a 2003 td5 disco 2 a with 136000 klms on the dial.
Great looking car , drives well, interior imaculate, body straight as if shed come off the showroom floor.
But Im having a few issues with it ( from what I read its only going to grow).
1. Transfer case leak ( seem to be coming from top of it ), slowly leaking onto the bar then floor.
2. Front rocker cover leak.
3. This is the most annoying, Gearbox clunk when travelling between 1800 revs to 2200, this would be the most confusing ( it only happens sometimes, not all the time , probably 3 times in a week.)Gearbox oil, transfer case oil changed , previous owner hadn't done this as it was black as.Found 2 specs of metal in the tray and a brass object that looked like broken from a sensor or something.
I have made a video of the dash while driving at various revs, but no clunk. Mind you I had towed a jetski and trailer yesterday.

Cool Update

Just took it out again, drives smoothly , changes gears smoothly.
I am dumfounded.

Fuel economy on td5, filled 85 litres ( car had another 10 ) drove about 700 klms ( aircon on, freeway driving , sitting on average 110k per hour , then yellow light came on }

I heard these do up to 850klms per tank, but mine need servicing I think.
Any ideas?

Is this an auto or manual gearbox? You mention a tray, so I'm assuming auto.

Anyhow, is the clunking a dull rolling continuous clunk at speed or does it come and go at speed?

Probably won't get much help concerning diesel engines here, mostly US guys and gals on this board...mainly gasoline folks here.

Brian.

Hi Deputy.
thanks for replying.
it is Auto, more of a quick shifting clunk like its shifted into the desired gear .
But the odd thing is that it doesnt slip or wind into it with a higher rev, it just happens.

I'd be taking a long hard look at the driveshafts, especially the front one. They are prone to failure, causing severe damage in their wake (smashing a hole in trans, y-pipe, etc). If it has the original non serviceable shaft...it could be due for replacements.

Brian.
