Default Landrover Disco newbee

Hi All,

I may be taking the plung. I have a chance to pick up a 98 Disco LE for $1200 Can. about 1100 us.
I took it for a test drive and it runs smooth and quiet. Needs a real good cleaning. I don't think it has had a cleaning since this guy got it 6 years ago. Its got about 134,00 miles on it. How many miles are these good for if they are mostly paved road miles?

The things he mentioned are oxygen sensors and catalytic converters, they don't seem plugged as it has power and runs good. The only thing I question as it has some play in the steering. It seems to take about 1 hr. on the steering if you use a clock analogy but nothing seems loose.

What should I look for when evaluating it?

Thanks
Bryan

could be a few things the tie rod ends, the aligment, the tires. Also make sure you do the 60k service in the disco section of the forum.

sonofagun that's a good price. I got my LE for $5500USD; had 93k on it. That was a little over 3 months ago. I see now I could have shopped around and got something less, but it is a very clean strong unit, I know I will get my money's worth out of it.

I am quite sure I am hooked for life on these vehicles. Am trying to find out which models are the best; the Disco 1 or 2; also, am very curious about the Defender. I want to read all I can to know the best years and models.

interesting journey!!

disco 1 or 2004 disco 2 are the best cuz of the diff lock. defenders are expensive you can only get an up to an 1984 due to import regulations, or there are some 93 and 94's floating that were sold on a limited release but they run from $25k and up.
