Light Weight is it worth it?
Hello,
I joined the forum to ask about a possible Light Weight purchase. I have been offered one brand new fresh from the factory, it has been sitting in storage since it was made. It is a Light Weight III with deisel engine and soft top.
The Light Weight has been offered to me for US$12,000, including freight adn duty. I was posting it here in hope that you could tell me if this is a good deal or not? Also I was curious what sort of milage I would get in one of these, being so light I imagine it would be very good on fuel.
Thanks
Rob

Depends on how much you want it.
If it's been sitting since the 70's or 80's (you don't say what year it is) expect a lot of seals to be dried out.
Also, if it's not been run at all and there was any moisture at all in the drivetrain, some bits that aren't in oil could have some rust on them.
The Lightweight isn't all that much lighter than a soft top 88 and in fact has a heavier chassis (made from slightly thicker material). The were made lighter by removing body panels in the field for air transport.
If it's not been run regularly expect the fuel system to be waxed and full of bacteria. You'll have to clean it all out.
