Long time Land Rover fan, new unexpected owner
Hi all,
As mentioned, I've always been a fan of Land Rover, since my dad had a discovery as a kid. Up until very recently I was growing more and more despondent with my 2019 Chevy Colorado ZR2, until finally 2 months before a long road trip, I dropped it off to have some routine maintenance items done, only to be presented with a $6000+ bill on a failing timing chain at 68,000 miles. This of course came just about a year and a half after the torque converter failed at around 45000 miles. I did for a moment consider a brand new ZR2, in hopes they had worked out the kinks, but luckily there were none to be found. As I stood outside the dealership, pondering my life's choices, I noticed a figure in the used car lot that looked familiar. Lo and behold, it was a 2022 LR Defender X dynamic SE. So now Im in, and I love it.
I have a lot to learn. Firstly, how to turn this into a suitable over-landing rig, using some of what I had from the ZR2, on this defender. I think the first and foremost thing I need to do, is change its shoes. Then I need to figure out a rack for sleeping arrangements (girlfriend and two small dogs). Then, do I keep my Tepui Kukenam 3, and throw it up top the defender, or do I get a lower profile hard shell type dealy. How best to rig up my ARB Elements Fridge Freezer....before I had wired up an automatic charge relay(ACR) to my ZR2, and ran thick gauge wire to the bed, between the fridge and the ACR I built a battery box to run the fridge over night.
So much to research, so little time.
Anyways, I enjoy the journey, hope to see you on the road.
