Default New from Adelaide

Hi all, my life long fascination with Land Rovers was started when dad used to bring one home from the Army (series 2a) and park it in the front drive way. My brother and I would play in it for hours on end. I then obsessed about the Series 3 in service and then the perenties. However, many other interests (aeroplanes and motorbikes) have conspired to keep me rover-less, until now. I am just about to settle on a Discovery I with 200K on it. It looks neat, with a few leaks and rattles, but the engine is sound and the service history looks good. What can I say? Happy to wield a spanner on the odd weekend to finally have a land rover. Thanks to all in this forum, as I wouldn't have known what to look for without your advice (pre-member). Cheers, and looking forward to a long relationship both with the landy and the forum.

Nige

PS Adelaide, South Australia.

Welcome, and don't forget the RAVE download, whole set of shop, electrical, and owner manuals. My 97 D1 is just a few miles behind, and I run a 180F thermostat. The heat gauge is far from an exact display. Mine hits the edge of the normal range at 135F. I really don't want to know how hot it would be to reach the top of the range. I run 183-187F now. An older Rover will usually need radiator attention. The rad is a copper and brass affair, over $500 US. An indy rad shop can unsolder a tank and rod out the calcium buildup, about $75 US near me.

Thanks Savannah. I just want 24 hours looking at it in my garage before breaking out the spanners. It needs some work. I drove it home today and noted about 10 things that needed doing mechanically, from electric windows to aircon clutch...but it is the most beautiful car I have ever owned. I'm going to stare at it for a while before reality hits.:-) thanks for the links.

Take a look in our tech area and check out the high miles service list.
