Default New Disco II owner in Northern California

So I guess this is my obligatory, cout >> "Hello world"; statement. Ok, ok that was a lame attempt at humor. Anyway, I recently purchased a 2003 Discovery SE, 60k mi, 1 owner with an impeccable service record. And while I sometimes wonder why I decided to buy a vehicle that gets terrible fuel economy in the middle of a gas crisis, I am reminded why every I turn the key as a smile is brought to my face.

I'm not new to four wheeling and while I've been off roading for about 12 years, there's always so much more to learn. My personal experience has revolved around my Jeep Wrangler which has taken me over some of the tougher rock crawling trails here in California such as Santiago's Revenge, to the more medium level trails like the Rubicon et al. Alas, while extremely capable, the Wrangler just doesn't comfortably fit my growing family and with the addition of our dog the 2 seater Jeep trips have gotten shorter and shorter. While they can be done with creative packing, it is a little too tight of a fit.

The Discovery, while quite comfortable, also appears to be a very capable off road vehicle in the hands of a proficient driver. There's a video on youtube of a guy walking up El Hill at Los Coyotes in the San Diego area in his Disco like it was nothing, very impressive; something I have always been afraid to do after watching a friend of mine pull a very high wheelie while going up in his Jeep. So while I'm not interested in making this thing a hardcore rockcrawler, as I've already got one, I think with a smallish 2" OME lift and some 31"s on there, I will find few limitations on where this truck can take me. Of course, we know it won't end with that... bumpers, winch, racks, etc will all surely find their way into the picture.

Here's my Jeep and the Rover
