Default New guy Might buy need advice

Names Trey live in OKC Im 22, big gear head (heres my baby http://www.fquick.com/LS6GTO) and Active Duty Air Force. I currently fly (in the back) on AWACS but Im hoping to crosstrain to be a SERE specialist. So I've recently become much more enthusiastic about hunting and camping and such. Well its time to buy my wife a new car and she wants an SUV of somekind. With me getting into the SERE mindset I want something that has practical uses as well. So I've been looking around and have stumbled upon a 2004 Discovery and want to know if it sounds like a good deal. The thing that scares me is it has 156k miles on it and a couple of dents and dings (one in back door, and passenger side of front bumper is all but gone). The guys askin $5900 but I figured he'd take $5500 for it. Should I go for it. Im going to test drive the car tomorrow. Need any advice on kown problems or if this is just to many miles ect.

Thanks in advance,
Trey

first do the 60k service in the HOW TO section.

then make sure the drive shaft has been rebuilt with greasable u joints.

thats exactly what I was thinkin. Do you have part numbers and where to pick em up (does autozone carry stuff for Landrover) ect. Also where can I get a set of wheels and tires. Would like some Street wheels for the wife.

here are the best priced 8mm magnecor wires http://www.apexperformance.net/cartg...t.asp?scat=306

get the workshop manual for free here
http://www.landroverresource.com/

You will need to rebuild your drive shaft if it doesnt already have zerk or flush zerk fittings on the u joints. climb under and check first.

will cost you around $70 in parts (qty 3) 344 precision u joints (qty 1) 617 precision ball kit or if you have an Advance Auto nearby PDQ 1-0005 (qty 3 @ $14) and Neapco 7-0081NG (qty 1 @ $30), I do not reccomend using Auto Zone as their U-joints are Chinese made and not very good quality. Your rear propshaft takes the same u-joint and you can also check the rear coupler. it has a tendency to crack and fail. that can be replaced easily or can be fitted with a u joint as well.

Your other option, have it rebuilt at a local drive line shop for $200 including parts or buy a replacement from Tom Woods ($350)

wheels are harder to come by. its not an easy lug pattern to fit. there are many tires available.
