Default New here – 2020 Discovery SE build advice (bumpers, lights, roof rack)

Hey everyone,

New to the forum and to the Land Rover world in general, so I figured I’d introduce myself and ask for a little guidance at the same time.

I’ve got a 2020 Land Rover Discovery SE (L462). The truck is mostly stock right now – the only thing I’ve done so far is put a set of Toyo Open Country AT3s in the stock size. Huge improvement over the OEM tires, but I’m wanting to take the next steps without going completely overboard on cost.

I’m mainly looking for:

  • An off-road front bumper or A-frame/bull bar setup that actually fits the 2020 Disco
  • Something I can mount KC lights (or similar auxiliary lights) into cleanly
  • A solid roof rack that doesn’t whistle like crazy or cost more than the truck

Every time I search, I either get universal junk or super high-dollar armor that’s more than I’m trying to spend right now. I know there are some good options out there because I keep seeing built Discoveries on Instagram and in off-road threads, but tracking down what they’re actually running has been hit or miss.

So for those of you with a 2017–2020 Discovery 5 that’s set up for camping/overlanding or light off-road:

  • What front bumper / A-bar / nudge bar are you running?
  • Any brands or vendors you’d recommend (or tell me to avoid) that aren’t insanely priced?
  • Which roof rack are you happy with for real use (not just looks), and how’s the wind noise?
  • Bonus points for links, part numbers, or pics of your setup.

I’m not trying to build a hardcore rock crawler – just want a more capable, more protected truck with better lighting for back roads and trips, without dropping $3–4k on the first round of mods.

Appreciate any advice, photos, or build threads you can point me toward. Glad to be here and looking forward to learning from you all.

Thanks,

Hunter
