Hello everyone and Happy New Year as well. I'm Daniel and I'm a newly registered member here. I don't own a Land Rover yet but I'm considering buying one this year. I want to make a shift from owning a pickup (2011 Toyota Tacoma) to having a Land Rover Discovery which is my first choice. This will be my first time buying a new vehicle since I got my first one as a hand-me-down from my Dad a few years back. I would like to know more information and things I need to consider before buying one since I'll be paying a huge amount of money for it. Thank you.

Welcome! Before you spend a huge amount of money, go to the D1 and D2 threads and read read read. Educate yourself for free here before putting your own money down.

As for the huge amount of money... You can spend your money once on a pristine vehicle and you will still have ongoing maintenance... You can buy a cheap truck and spend your money twice or three times. Keep in mind you are looking at buying a 40k vehicle for 10 to 20 percent on the dollar. That comes at a cost. You still have to maintain it like it is a 40k vehicle. The more you can do yourself the better but otherwise consider you should budget $2k per year for maintenance for one of these. Even in good shape. You may not spend that every year but over several years it will average out to that.

Thank you so much for that insight. I know it's a huge step up but this is the choice I made now that I can finally afford finer things in life. I just have to prepare and at least create an advance budget like a leeway of some sort for maintenance.
