Bought an 01 Disco in February. Was at a car lot looking at a new Grand Cherokee for my husband and there it was. I've wanted a Land Rover for years, had even told my husband that if there was one car I would like to have it would be the Land Rover Discovery. I figured there was no way I could afford it on my budget. I bought the truck for $5600. And it just so happened I had enough in my account to cover taking it home that night! My husband STILL hasn't got a new Cherokee...he ended up buying me this truck! What a guy!!
I don't have to tell all of you how impressed I am with this vehicle! I've been a professional driver for over 20 years, owned alot of cars, working on most of them myself, restored my own motorcycle, and I just love my Rover! I was a little worried about the maintainence that seems to come with owning these trucks, but I figure the enjoyment I get out of it outweighs the risk of a repair.
Couple of weeks ago my transfer case seal started to leak. I went to our local 'Land Rover specialist' here in town(I couldn't believe there actually was one!). He quoted me $200 or so to fix it. Seemed cheap enough but...I don't like having other people working on my vehicles-trust issues...maybe, I just prefer knowing what went into my vehicle and how the work was done.
I decided to look on the internet to see if there was a forum or a copy of the manual out there...and I found this site. As far as I can figure it, you guys have already saved me the $200-ish for the repair and the $100 for the manual! This is great! Nothing makes a Cape Cod Yankee happier than saving money and doing for themselves! LOL! Thank you all!
I plan on picking up some White Shepard this week and adding it this weekend. The seal is only weeping, nothing major. I figure we'll try the WS and see if it works. If not, then on to the actual replacement of the seal, which doesn't seem to be that big of a deal.
As soon as my 'newbie' status ages a little, I'll post the pic of my two favorite things(my husband and my Rover)on Sandy Neck Beach! The truck is awesome in the sand! I plan on spending alot of time on here learning about the vehicle and seeing other people's trucks...as soon as the Bruins hurry up and win the Stanley Cup. Puck drops in 20 minutes! Gotta go! Thanks again! See ya soon!
