New Member Not New To Land Rover
Hello, I am a new member here, I currently drive a 1996 Land Rover Discovery V8 5 speed manual. I got this Rover last year and have been slowly working on it and getting it in running condition. The previous owner wasn't kind to this vehicle having bashed it off a couple trees bending the rear driveshaft causing the shaft to ultimately destroy the rear diff and cause the driveshaft to snap the bolts and fall off. The diff lock was stuck and electrical mishaps were abundant, but the price was right and it was parked until earlier this year. After hours trying to free the diff lock without removing the whole center console I decided to try to stand on the passenger side with the door open and using a 3/4 socket wrench placed it as low on the shift **** as I could and pulled towards me which to my surprise freed the lock rather simply. Once I came to the realization that there might just be some hope for the old British charmer I dug in deeper, replacing the driveshaft and the rear diff. Having a 5 speed was a huge bonus as all the Rovers my family and I have owned have all been on the automatic side of things. Currently it's running and driving, but when I'm slowing down I get a sound that sounds like a rubbing tire but sometimes almost seems to stop or slow down the truck a bit but when I'm at speed drives absolutely fine. I forgot to mention I'm running Michelin XZL tires which in my opinion work the best on the Rover. If anyone has any ideas on the rubbing sound I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks - KM.
