I am interested in finding a low mileage well maintained LR Discovery 2 from 2000-2004. Prefer a 2004.

Keep an eye on the Marketplace part of this forum. Also keep looking at the usual Craigslist etc.

Default Found a 2003 Discovery II

Thanks Harvlr. That went quicker than expected. Have looked at and considered 20+ and finally found one with 90k miles, well serviced, head gasket etc. done and zero rust. And priced reasonable compared to a lot of the others, probably because it is a 2003 rather than a 2004. But I can figure out how to install the center lock diff later.
First thing to do is to clean up the undercarriage, install OME HD springs and shocks for a 2" lift, new 255/70R18 tires (will keep the 5 spoke wheels) and ideally replace front and rear bumper. Might replace the front driveshaft if the U and ball joints look worn. Can't wait to get started.

It's an S model! Well done!!

Those pristine bumpers are gold!!!

Keep them, sell them, whatever, just don't break them!

Wheels on S models are usually 16" as those look to be. Could be just the angle though.

Thanks Dave03S

Yes, I'm actually not aware of the difference between the various models but happy to have found one without sunroofs and without air suspension. It has black leather interior but pretty basic. No adjustable armrests, and no fancy sound system. Are you saying that the bumpers on this one are different from some of the other models?

Yes, Besides the fact that they look to be in great shape, which is also rare, the S models have the same black plastic end caps with no fog lights. The up models have body color bumper end caps with fog light holes.

The S also does not have the side trim moulding at the beltline, Usually a "leatherette" upholstery but someone could have ordered the leather. Otherwise, little things like no wood veneer trim inside, no hitch receiver, etc...

I prefer the more utilitarian look of the black plastic and black rubber.

Definitely the big three differences are the Sunroof and SAS (air suspension) deletes and those 16" wheels were unique to the base model. A lot of guys like the 16's for the extra sidewall you can fit in there.

edit add: AND NO DAMN JUMP SEATS!!!

Thanks Dave. Yes, I like it basic. Thank you for the explanation. I'm definitely keeping the wheels - just putting some 265/75R16 tires on them once I've upgraded the springs and shocks.
