Default New Owner From Dubai

Hi All

Just as an intro, i've recently purchased a US Spec Disco 2 (2003 HSE) from California and shipped it here to Dubai.

They are better spec than the ones here and although i've had some issued with it which (looking at the posts) seem to be common, its pretty good.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but can anyone advise on and mods or items that i should be looking at considering the climate i'm living in?

in the summer, its frequently 45 degrees C and humidity can be as high as 90%.

All vehicles that come here via dealers are termed as 'GCC' spec meaning Gulf enhanced versions although i cannot say what the changed specs are.

The last Disco i had was a 4 litre V8 2004 model and the US version seems much more smoother and seems better put together.

The AC does struggle in the summer so any advice would be appreciated.

Max

You really shouldn't have any problems with the cooling system, in spite of higher ambeint temps. I have a friend who had a D90 in Dubai and never had a problem with the stock cooling system. He has a Disco in Lebanon and even though the climate is more varied there, he has no probems htere either.

The biggest key to keeping the cooling systems working is a regular flushing of the radiator, use of good distilled or deionized water and in the case of the newer rigs, a good oragnic acid technology (pink) coolant. Given the perceived higher load on the cooling system in your neck of the woods, you may wish to increase the frequency of flushing to once per year, rather than the usualy once vervey 24 months.

Also, make damned sure that the fan clutch is functioning, ie freely spinning when cold and more resistant to freewheeling when warm.

You may find that hoses dry out faster in the arid desert climate so you may wish to pay close attention to both hoses and the drive belt as well.

Welcome to the cult!
