About to purchase my first Rover, a 2000 Disco II with only 63k...

Obviously I figure everyone loves Rovers but looking for some feedback as far a maintenance/reliability etc...

Moving on from my beloved TJ to this Disco!

look thru the tech section some good threads on what to look for when buying and your first maintenance session.

 

Check it out in great detail and ask for maintenance records. Look it over really good BEFORE you put your money into it.

Even though they are generally nice and look impressive, just remember very few people sell good ones at a good price.

Be leary of any existing problems, especially related to overheating.

Inquire as to whether or not the factory driveshafts have been changed over to greasable u-joints. The factory ones are sealedand will tend to destroy the tranny and the cats when they self-destruct (usually around 65K miles or so).

THE 60K MILE SERVICE ON THESE RUNS QUITE A BIT OF MONEY IF DONE AT A DEALERSHIP. Ask to see his receipts, if it is not up to date, ask him to cover that or deduct for it.

If you do not check it out very well in advance of buying it, you will be in for a big surprise the first time it has to go to the dealership or even an independent, that ain't cheap.

Other than that, have fun and you may need a second job to take care of the upkeep.
