Newbie From Canada
Greetings from Newfoundland Canada!! I, like many others, have some questions about the near and possible purchase of a new-2-me Discovery. It is a 2002 5 passenger. It only has 57,000kms {35,500 miles}. It has been recently turned in off a 3 year lease. I can get this Series II for about $18,000CAD {$15,000USD}. I haven't checked into the service history of it yet, however, if it just came in off lease, then all the required maintenance would/should be at the dealer. I am well aware of the not-so-good fuel mileage these vehicles offer.....but how bad is bad? I read some get 17mpg/city and others getting 12mpg/city. All depends on your driving habits I guess. How big is the fuel tank? How much does it cost you to fill it up and how many kms or miles can you expect to get out of tank of normal city driving? If I keep the regular maintenance {oil&filter, fluids, brakes, belts} up, will this be suffice to get at least a couple of trouble-free years out of it? I am by no means a lead foot or a hardcore 4-wheeler. Now I will try it out with our local 4WD group, but I won't punish it either. Snow is my biggest issue, when it hits. Any/all advice is greatly welcomed. I have always had a liking of the Land Rovers, but I think its about time I bite the bullet and jump in!!
Cheers,
Mark

Fuel mileage will definitely vary, like you said, it's the style of driving. I baby my Disco most of the time and have been getting quite good results. I average about 18mpg. The fuel mapping is a bit more rich with the Bosch engine management. Thats why even under moderate load, the injectors are over half duty cycle. I don't know if that rover your looking at is fitted with the ACE (active cornering) package, but if it does, you will be addicted to the amazing handling of this big rig. I can out-corner most cars on the road, and definitely all the other cookie cut suv's with my Disco. You will not regret anything when you buy it and drive it. Your gonna love it!
I may be in the slow lane saving my fuel most of the time, but at least being in the slow lane cruising in a rover with style. Nice!
Hey, nice to see some Canadians here! I'm also in Ontario (close to Niagara).
