Default Carburattors Problems!!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen,
I am sorry for distyrbing but i m stuck in a very bad way with a problem i deal with for the last 2 months!
I got a Land Rover 90 model 1989 V8 with 2 S.U. carburattors ,unleaded petrol not diesel.
Even thou the car is old i m the first owner and it has 43.000 klm done till now.
The problem is this. 2 months ago i realized higher fuel consumption so i took it for a tuneup at the carbs tuner. for the first 2 weeks everything was amazingly better. After that BOOM!! it chokes on high fuel levels beeing thrown inside the engine from the carbs, spark plugs fummed like hell and a heavy fuel smell coming out from the engine with dark clouds!
I took it back to the carbs tuner and he said that the carburattors are tottaly de-synchronized it needed tuning blah blah blah so thats what he did AGAIN.when he finished he said there was no problem but it just needed tuning.
All good...3 days later the same problem came up.High fuel consumption dark clouds coming out from the exchaust etc etc and the idle is more like dying idle than normal idle!
PLEASE- PLEASE PLEAAAASEEE help me ! give me a tiny solution or i swear i will go back and kill him!!!! i m in panic right now ,my car was a present to me by my father who died and the sentimental value is off the charts. I do not know what to do anymore...

Have you done a actual tune up to the engine?
By that I mean new spark plugs, spark plug wires and a new dizzy cap and rotor?
How about the air filter? Is it clean?
Are you using quality fuel?
Are you using the highest octane fuel you can get?

Check your throttle linkages and fuel lines, it could be something as small as linkages getting stuck and pulling things out of sync. Take it back to that mechanic and tell him to check and fix everything this time, and that he should do it for FREE.

.....and don't kill him until after he fixes it

Guys Thank you very much for your replies,
I got New spark plugs installed,Unleaded fuel 95, i havent tuned up the engine on any way, and the tune up i was talking about regarding the carbs was actually regulation of them not messing with them to reduce consumption etc etc just regulation to meet specifications like HC levels CO levels etc etc...
I will ask him to check everything you told me..Thank you and i HOPE he gets it done this time..

Good Day,
As i was finally informed by the carbs tuner, the problem is located "probably" @ the needles or/and at the zinglers.(the cups where the needles r in.)
I ordered a pair of S.U. carbs (new old stock as i was told) with the cost of 350 euros and i HOPE that the problem will be solved once and for all. You may say why didnt you just buy a repair kit?. well in Greece where every one tries to get advantage of you pocket the repair kit price is exactly 360 euros.10 euros more expensive than the pair i ordered from Uk.
I thought it wasnt worth it,not for the 10 euros difference, but just because on one hand i would have a New pair of carburattors and on the other a repair kit, with almost the same price.

Glad you found the problem, but I guess you can't go wrong with a pair of new carbs. I am not familiar with 'needles' and 'zinglers', sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie

Good luck getting your truck back on track, let's see some pictures if you have some!

Maybe my technical terms arent correct they rnt sci fi at all carburattors are the "cavemen", technology before injection systems, they r simpler, could even work better if they are delicately tuned and can increase or decrease Hp of the car if u tweek em but you will of course raise or decrease the fuel consumption in the same time:P
lets me find out how i can upload a pic or 2
