I used Backpacker on my Droid a while back, it accepts downloadable topo maps. It does ok. Waypoints can be saved etc. I don't know what is wrong with it since I have only used it once. But seems to work for what I used it for.
In the past I have used OZI explorer on my old laptop that I carried everywhere. It crapped out and I never recovered anything from it. Waypoints are stored on a server. I thought I might upgrade but never did. I really liked it though. Maps could be scanned and calibrated. So I could overlay cave maps on the surface and get close to entrances etc. You may not be interested in that, but it had many other uses. Not sure if it's still around.

I noticed you have curb feelers but no Tennessee Gofaster. Next add on maybe

thank you. that sounds like a good one but according to there site, I would have to steal a different device from my kids:
from ozi= "Apple iPhone and iPad

Development of the iPhone and iPad version is on hold. We do not know when or if it will commence."

and a flame job decal and turbo emblem may be in the budget

Backpacker's cousin product Navigator Outdoors. I have both on my Android phone now and trying to compare them. Also check out this link using an Ipad, but you can use the same app on Android and read the TOPO maps downloaded to your phone and use the built-in GPS, so no dependents on cell coverage. PDF Maps by Avenza is the app they use below and it is available for Android now as well. There are more detailed videos on the actual app on YouTube as well.

BTW, I see they have set the date for the 2014 event. I would love to make this trip, anybody up for the Vermont Overland Trophy Adventure in August 4-9, 2014?

This is cool We are, going to get a pad soon. The big screen is better for topo.
Must have.. downloadable maps feature. With the stick in my droid phone I can hold several gig of maps.
Thanks for showing us this. Hard to keep up these days

Would love to go to Vermont in August. Had a Rover for many years but never been to an event. Missed Moab a couple years ago by a couple of weeks.
Maybe?? This one

Don't theses devices require Wifi or Cell connection to function properly?
In my mind what good are they if you are limited on where you can go due to coverage.
