H1 articulation

H1 articulation
I know this has absolutly nothing to do with land rovers but why in hell did Hummer design H1 with IFS/IRS suspension? here are the disadvantages off road: articulation is absolutly crap (385 for 93 H1, 580 for 94 land rover defnder), more expensive to buy and run, higher maintainence costs, more expensive to repair, breaks easier, much more complicated and much more. Advantages off road: errrrrr, not much, actually no advantages. So why in hell did Hummer put IFS/IRS on it?

RE: H1 articulation
Greater ground clearance I think. Don't forget the main design criteria for the H1 was it had to be able to run in the same tracks as an M1 Abrams Tank, which is also crap, expensive to run, high maintenance, breaks easily & very complicated.

RE: H1 articulation
True, LR3 and RR have IFS/IRS, and are very capable vehicles, but also remember that they were also designed to be used on the road alot of the time. Road is where IFS/IRS really shines, and LR3 and RR don't have the best articulation say compared to a defender 90TD5. However Land Rover manages to get quite alot of articulation
