Happy Thanksgiving to all!
Funny enough today I had a few Brits who heard my American accent tell me Happy Thanksgiving while I was out shopping.

That's really nice!!! Even though today was one of the most unorganized Thanksgivings our family has ever had, I can honestly say it was the best and most memorable We dealt with a 14 hour power outage, a 2:50 am surprise wake-up call, a 21 pound turkey crossing County lines twice in one day (first half frozen and then almost fully cooked) and lots of laughs and love. Through teamwork and perseverance, we pulled it off and sat down to eat an hour and a half after the planned dinnertime, and a few hours after the power was restored. Strangely enough, it was one of the most relaxed Thanksgivings too. We all had fun

Did you celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK then? I've notice that many of my British relatives in the UK are sharing Thanksgiving themed memes on Facebook! And one was talking about Black Friday?!? I thought that was funny....

Where I live in England there is a large American community of us so we all invite over our British neighbors and friends for Thanksgiving meal and partake in libations.
The Brits use Black Friday for advertisement sales and understand it is derived from the day after Thanksgiving in the states. Lots of Black Friday sales start today over here.

Strangest Thanksgivings we ever had, happened when my sister in law forgot to turn on the roaster oven. I'll never forget the look on Lori's (wife) and my sister's face when they inquisitively lifted the lid to check out the bird...and saw a complete raw turkey sitting inside. They both looked at each other with raised eyebrows and cross-eyed, and slowly place the cover back over the bird. Thought it was kind of weird when we walked into the house and didn't immediately smell turkey cooking. Yep, three hours later...we ate. What made it so funny was...prior to arriving...l'd warned Lori, which this was her first Thanksgiving after our marriage, about my sister in law and how something usually goes haywire during her year for hosting the family get together. Boy, was l spot on that year...lol. My sister in law disappeared throughout the whole time...l believe she had to "burn one down"...to get up enough nerve to come out of the bedroom four hours later...lol.

Hope everyone had a special, memorable (raw turkey moments...lol) and enjoyable Thanksgivings!

Brian.

Haha... I think that one takes the cake Brian and your wife probably knew/learned that, in the future, she should take heed to your 'warnings' or speculations Hopefully your sister has redeemed herself since! Poor thing

Yeah, I succeeded in waking up the whole fam damily on Thanksgiving day as my parent's home alarm system called me in the wee hours of the morning to alert me that something was wrong. I ended up driving to their place at 0:dark:30, armed with hot coffee and sausage biscuits, to check on them and get the turkey so we could host Thanksgiving at our place. It was pretty comical as I was standing on their front porch, in the dark with my phone flashlight illuminated, talking to myself because no one had answered my knock on the door. I was just about to leave and I saw a flashlight come up to the front door from the other side. Once my parents figured out what was going on, they were loading me down with everything haha... I think they were relieved Jim wasn't too thrilled with the prospect of hosting dinner but my sister was impressed that we stepped up to the plate (???). So I got home, stuffed the 21 pound turkey, looked at the implements they sent me home with (masher, baster, wooden **** thing?) and thought 'what in the heck did I get myself into'? lol. It all worked out in the end... my parent's power came back on at 11:30 am, they called and wondered if we wanted to come back out, so I loaded the turkey back into the car and we headed over again. Thank god they made the mashed potatoes and gravy

Hope you're enjoying your weekend and getting some quiet time to do fun things like work on the 110!

Christina

Christina,

Was the power out on account of the high winds on Wednesday? It was something else down here, couple gusts even got my attention at work....granted...l was off work, but at the garage working on the 110...as recommended. Yep, you never really realize tge importance of power...until you don't have any. Sounds like you saved the day though!

Now, on to Christmas dinner...since you're well acclimated now.

Yep, the power was out due to trees hitting the lines, which I'm assuming was due to the high wind gusts we had Wednesday night. I heard over 20,000 homes within Michigan were without power on Thursday!

haha.. Christmas is ham... easy peasy oink oink
