Hire of 4x4 and how much$$$$$
I'm vacationing in the southern US states next year and want to hire a 4x4 for a few weeks. Please can anyone advise what is available for hire, Defender, Discovery, RRS, Jeep, Nissan, Toyota etc and roughly what does it cost per week including full insurance cover. Diesel is good but no doubt from what I read here not possible so a gas truck will suffice. Oh, must have A/C and autobox................don't do manual stick for about the past 30+ years. Also can these hire trucks be taken offroad, not serious offroad, no rock crawling or mud plugging, just dirt tour trails.
Many thanks
Many thanks
Thanks Dusty. I've been perusing the hire websites, ya know, the usual culprits, Hertz, Avis etc blah, blah and they have very few 4x4's, mostly toy town stuff for hire. The RRS comes under one outfit as super luxury
and the weekly prices are eye watering
I'll keep plugging away on the web until I find something. Problem is I get bored quickly looking into vacations and car hire.
We are looking to fly into Houston and drive up to Dallas and around then to Colorado and around then on west. I'll call you up for a beer downtown when we are passing through.

Found a place that does jeep rental. Farabeesjeeprentals.com. They have a California, Utah, 2 Colorado locations.
I just rented a rubicon for 3 days, next week. Plan to do a little back to back comparison. It will be my first time to be in a jeep from this century.
3 day rental came to just under $200 per day....I think. I'll let you know exact $ when I get bill. There was some kind of discount for 3 days as opposed to 2 .

it's my ethnic nature coming to the fore.
Many thanks again.
OffRoad about when will you be in Colorado? It will be a pleasure to meet and at least tell the way to (if not showing you) a few off the beaten tourist track enjoyables.
I realize you are directing your hospitality to france, but Any suggestions south of you? Ill be staying in telluride, for the next week or so and will be doing day trips from there. Picked out a bunch of off road trails to hit and nature areas to see. Anything, in particular, come to mind?
, nobodys perfect
seriously, I would enjoy that. I haven't set a date yet but it'll be in the spring time when it's not scorching down there. I already have a tentative 'date' with Dusty for a beer and a laugh and maybe raise some dust on offroad trails even with a hire Jeep
. There's a couple of guys I'd love to meet up with but I afraid I'll never cover enough of the US to meet them all. Maybe another time I'll do the mid and northern US (it's a big place). As Arnie said, "I'll be back"
Initially I was thinking of flying into Houston (I used to work there) but it's not where I ideally want to explore so maybe somewhere northwest like Colorado. I've still gotta do the canyon yet
but not in a 'copter or plane or even as a dumb tourist.
