Default Landrover vs Mitsubishi Pajero

Although I'm a Landrover 'die hard' I have to admit my aging Pajero is more refined and in gadgetry better than the equivalent LR's of it's age (1995) and probably of a better or superior overall build quality. Moving on to today, I wonder whether the modern Pajero can match up!. Given the choice and relative prices I'm in a quandary as to whether to stick with Landrovers in the future or go for the new(er) Pajero turbo diesel. I suppose there are the Mercedes and BMW options but are they more of the same just like LR's and therefore just buying into expensive problems.

Taking the LR and Mitsubishi as two possible options what would others buy given these options? or would many go elsewhere for a new(er) 4x4?

It would be interesting to read about your thoughts and opinions.

Being mainly a USA forum I doubt many have driven a Pajero, since they aren't exactly sold here. I drove one in the middle east for a month and liked it. The diesel had good power the interior wasn't bad overall, but it didn't have the feel of landy off road.

Isn't the pajero the same as the montero here?

It is but it isn't if that makes sense. There are some differences. The big one being the drivetrains.

Makes sense. The EPA never lets us get anything cool until it's 21 years old..... and by then, it's not as cool anymore.
