Default Long Range, Pistol, AR15, Gunsmithing, 3 Gun, CCWs? Lets all get together and Brag!

Hello all, I'm new to the form, and new to Land Rovers all together. Some of you may have seen my introspection post in the vehicle line up. If so thanks for looking. I'm an extremely avid Long Range Shooter, and try to hit the range as much as possible. Usually Monday, wed, and, Fri if there's enough light after work, then a full range day on Saturdays, and some Sundays. I have 4 different long range competition rigs, 2 being identical Remington 700s, 22'' Barrels, Bell & Carlson stocks, Vortex Glassware- Razor HD 5-20x50, custom Tuned Timney Triggers, the only difference is the two is simply caliber. One is a good old .308 for 100 to 500 yard competetion, and the other is its big brother 300 Winchester Short magnum. A lot of guys give me grief about using two rifles, but it suits my personal strategy perfectly. Reasons it works great for me.
A. I hand load all my own Match Grade ammunition.
B. Its nice to have a dedicated rifle for a certain situation.
c. In true "long Range Shooting" there isn't a 1 size fits all rifle or caliber.
I also have a 700 set up identical to these 2 in .223. Not to shoot over 300 with, but just to practice technique, and get some cheap trigger time in. Personally, I love my 223s. I even hunt the small whitetails in North Alabama with a .223. However, I'm not hunting with store bough varmint loads like most guys that started the unethical debate about hunting deer with a 223. I have a dedicated AR15 .223 Wylde upper with a 20" barrel that'll sling premium handloaded 77 grain Sierras MKs accurately, and quickly kill whitetails at the ranges we hunt in. Rarely does a shot come anywhere close to 200 yards in North Alabama. I've killed 2 deer every season for the last 4 years with this recipe, and I have never had one walk more than 20 yards from POI. I normally shoot older fat does, and the occasional old, fat buck. I hunt for the meat, I hunt to feed my family, and I hunt to help control disease and over-populating. I do not hunt for a love to kill things, nor do I hunt to put a mount on the wall. I only take what I, my family, and friends, can use. Besides, in my history of eating deer, I think a good, fat, healthy doe tastes much better than a 12 point on the wall above the fire place. I have one animal that I have ever killed mounted, and that is a beautiful Mountain Lion that I killed when I was living in Colorado. This is one of the few times I find it perfectly reasonable to take game to the taxidermist. However the animal was harvested of all meat, and donated to the Wolf & Wildlife Refuge in Divide, CO. It was such a beautiful, and powerful predator. I found that a great way to show tribute to its body, and to respect it life it gave for the purpose feeding the wolves, and coyotes at the refuge. I guess this post has gone from Long Range to hunting really quick, so I might as well touch on the other things im into in the shooting sport world. I also compete in 3 gun, which is the most addicting thing I've ever gotten into. You'll be buying expensive shotguns, 3 gun purpose built pistols, and tweaking every pin, spring, button, accessory on your AR. Just to shave half a second on your time. Plus, its a great workout and way more fun than the gym in my opinion. I also build custom pistols for competition, reliability for some police, and just for beauty and art of the trade. I love 1911s, and they are bar far my favorite to work on/ with. In addition to all the other gun stuff, I am a self admitted AR15/SCAR/ tactical rifle junkie. I 3d print/ mill my own uppers and lowers, as well as build some for friends. In my collection i have over a dozen AR15/10, couple of SCARs, in 8-10 different calibers. To add the ice to the "jeremy is completed insane and paranoid" cake. I carry concealed every time I leave the house, and at this point I feel naked without a holster on my belt, or a LCP in my back pocket.
So to make this slight overview of my firearm addiction I don't think I'm crazy. I'm just an engineer that is truly fascinated with every aspect of firearms, as I am with Jeeps, and now Land Rovers. I hope some of ya'll share the same passion, if you will, with me on this stuff because I really love to hear opinions about what everyone else is using, load secrets, technique, and always new gear, guns, ammo, holsters, and even the new space aged stuff the military gets to play with. So, In closing of the preface of my novel, I hope to find a few of you guys out there to share stories with.

For any of you that may be interested, I am an engineer as I said before. I have a BA in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Alabama with a minor in Computer Science. My father started a small Software Development company back in 2001, and after he was diagnosed with cancer 5 years ago I became the Operational CEO of the Company. Now that my old man is better I was finally handed the torch, and now own our family company. We have a range of products that we have worked on from GPS Guidance for the Goverment, to Logistics for UPS we have done a lot of crazy work. The one thing that we actually specialize in, and know very, very well is Fabrication and Machining. Our main product is A CAD/CAM system that is used to generate Nesting, Toolpathing, and Cost Estimation soloutions taylored to fit any shop size, and make any piece of CNC equipment operate faster, more smoothly, and more profitably. SO, now, with this being said. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am developing a Software application for the avid shooters out there like I. It will be essentially be a library of the weapons and optics you own, with the capability to store all you information for that rifle in one place. Keep records of your day at the rang by importing a picture of your targets, and give you a lifetime to daily best group size for that said weapon. It will also be your best friend for handloading, creating your estimated solution ballistics for that said load, and a whole lot more. It will have the capability to use loads from the popular store bought ammo to find the best set up for situation, as well as give you range ballistics over a chosen range. It will basically be your reloading manual, long range shooting guide, log book, trophy room, and instructions on how to re-zero for a new bullet type, brand, ect. There will be a whole lot more that the software will do, and when I get done with the Interface Development I will be releasing beta versions to anyone whom would want it. The best part: IT WILL BE FREE. Everything gun related, all in one program. FREE. None of that add stuff either, FREE. So, I'd like to hear what you guys would look for in such an application. I've got a lot of feedback from the few that are using my bare bones version, and the guys love it. The new version should do anything, and everything your weapon can do, less pull the trigger. I'd love to hear what you think. Anyways, I can't wait to hear what everyone has to say. I've got some work to do, then its off to the bed. Cheers!

Hi and welcome to the board. I am also new to all of this. Also sorta new to the gun thing again. I used to shoot alot when a kid but through teen years and 20s i eas into cars. Oh if i could have that money back. Currently I only have one gun a sccy9mm and it well... its good for what designed for. We looking to get us both sig p320 in 9mm. Seems be a good gun that can be suited. Also getting ready to buy a c39. I am fan of ak's for the ruggedness and simplicity. Going to try to get a few this year. Also great that buying the 7.62rd in bulk is pretty cheap. And my big investment you may have some input on is Valley Ordanace .50. The reviews are slim but good. They are @1K less than M99 with optics and a better warranty than most. I had looked at the savage 110 in .338 and after price of gun and what ammo runs its not really any more for .50cal. I guess you would say im a gun racists lol,but I have read and weighed options as to what I feel will benefit me and family for long time. I personally recommend everyone buy a gun as you never know when they will try take that away.

The software sounds really useful. We plan to reload, my grandfather did and i got to watch and punchout alot of primers so reloading will be a new thing again. What I have read with reloading it becomes almost an art in long distance do to air and wind and you have to learn what it likes. I guessing your software like an Elog to help balance all of this.

But as said this is kinda all new to me again and between trying to read on this stuff, fix all vehicals, and get the farm ready for year I feel my brain about to explode. But I will push on.

Looking forward to checking out the programing when released and checking out any the 3d stuff. And this board seems be great, less drama than any forum ive seen and everyone willing to help.
