Well Tom, you helped me in a different thread soooo........I'll confess..
I've been in Jeep aftermarket for 19 years, owned just about all of them,
came to the dark side as a fella needs a change now and then.
Jeeps are all about your location, here in KY they think they're gold, but I do have a friend with an XJ for 1k with low miles, needs valve springs and an interior gone through, rust free.
Why a YJ?.......Early ones had the vacuum Dana 30 up front, most have the crap-tastic Dana 35 in the rear.......it's a transition Jeep. Personally I'd be looking at TJ's......the last real Jeep in my eyes, don't care for JK's.
TJ's also suffer from frame rot, there are 'no' OEM frames available from Chrysler/Jeep any longer. YJ's suffer in the rear, from the wheel well back.......XJ's can suffer all over but the wheel base is desirable, I'm a former XJ guy, I've owned 13 of them. (build/swap/salvage/etc)
Look at Connecticut craigslist, look a Georgia & Florida and west if your not scared to buy on line........Georgia is CHEAP......Stay pre 96 for best drivetrain & motor issues........Their out there but are starting to fetch better dollar........it doesn't help that the XJ made the top 10 list of vehicles you can't kill. (DONT look in Mass/RI/PA/upper NY/or North)
If I can help, pm me.......or other, my internet time is limited.
While highly modified and know as the 'Rolling Felony'........I was still street legal in 9 states!....lol...

I still own. 1946 cj2a done up as ww2 , far as I am concerned the cj7 was last real jeep, round head lites and leaf springs
Figured yj cheaper/more available I want small and no airbags, easy to work on
Shftonfly, its so tempting but between flight out and gas back just can't spend all that figured in on a d1 right now

That's one clean undercarriage on that Discovery!!!!!
CJ's/YJ's are by far the cheapest to lift & modify......I was building this one a few years back until I learned I was going to be a father......(sold it a week later).....In less than a weekend & a hundred bucks, it was on it's way.......Simple spring over & revolvers....

That sir, was 'a-lot' of wrenching in your build thread.........I'd need a much better specimen than what I have to consider 1/2 of it. Good move moving the winch up, low set up's aren't that great. 4 links, ounce disconnected are born to flex, unlike leaf springs....I was running a 3 link up long arm set up on my last Cherokee....it was a bit much. Nice Work! Great Effort!
