I was going to get one a couple of months ago. I needed a new truck, but I couldn't do it. almost every feature seemed "gangsta" to me. interior/goofy decals/horrific grill....
in the end I went for a less offensive look.. but to each

Those are pretty popular here. I never understood the appeal to go off road at high speeds. Unless your racing Baja or something. Guys that drive these trucks (and pre runners in general) are ruining off roading for guys like me who respect the trails and environment. These guys blast through the desert at 40,50 even 60 MPH tearing up everything as it goes. They make a huge cloud of dust attracting the eyes of BLM. They in turn classify guys like me who tread lightly in the same category. They close trails due to environmental damage. It's bad for everyone. I'm not saying it's all of them but I've never seen a raptor just riding along.
I know it's probably a great truck. But a lot of young punks with zero respect for others seem to covet them here. Makes me hate them. To me they can't be used for overlanding or exploration. Their primary function seems to be high speed off road.

Agreed, spot on. Reminiscent of early Japanese 4x4 PU's all OTT on chrome and looks. The 'gangsta' look as you rightly say. Also the engine is far too big a capacity for us poor european frugal types.

I do like these though, what do you think?

Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI Altitude | Autocar

I'm seriously thinking of getting one, either the V10 or smaller capacity V8. Like the LR's it looks classy and understated in the lavish world of flashy 4x4's (I'm just a simpleton who likes simple toys )

I like that platform. we had a 2nd gen touareg when our girls were born. the wife was not comfortable driving anything too big. the size of the vehicle was great. we ended up with a v6 configuration (I wanted the tdi) then it was the v6tdi (I think).... I would like to drive the v10tdi. I think the first gen had that engine in a few of them here. not sure.

Be sure to pick up your "Rockstar" flat brimmed hat and/ or your divorced middle aged trying to be twenty clothes on the way to the dealership.
