Popularity priced in.
Browsing one of the UK main dealer websites for new and used LR's and it's amazing over the past 30 years how the balance of popularity in LR's has changed which is reflected strongly in their increased prices. For instance, the old Series, latterly the Defender LR was the workhorse and relatively cheap by comparison to, for instance, the Range Rover. Since Defenders became 'fashionable' 10 years or so ago their prices have rocketed. This also goes for many other of the models, the cheap Freelander has become expensive in the wake of the Evoque which is also overpriced. One only has to look in the private or indy ads for prices and you can see how much overpriced LR's have become. When you look at the depreciation figues, 40%+ in the first 3 years it is little wonder the sales are predominently to the rich and famous who have also inadvertently helped cause these price hikes. It now brings back into perspective the possibility of looking at other makes of 4x4's, typically, Mercedes, BMW, VW, Toyota etc. Are Landrover now pricing themselves out of the 4x4 market for everyday users?
