What are your other interests/passions? Auto brands or ???
Hey All, just ran across the off-topic forum and thought it would be interesting to see what other interests you guys have. I got into LRs via a "project" that I stumbled across, and that's how I typically get started. Recent projects were: a Saab 9-3 convertible (few years ago now tho I guess), a Mini I rebuilt for my daughter, another Mini that fell into my lap, and a BMW e90. brand-wise, I'm pretty loyal to BMW and currently have an M2 as a DD. I also have an old Mustang convertible.
But my most recent passions were an older Triumph motorcycle (tho not old enough to be a true classic) and a super fun Vespa. Again, both discovered as projects that I picked up super cheap and got to know really well through working on them to get them running. Sometimes they're so much fun that I can't move them along, and they end up in the family (like the Vespa, Triumph and D1...)
Anyway...what else floats your boats?

I've always liked an 80's square body Chevy shortbed 4x4 pickup. When I was growing up I almost got an 88 Chevy 4x4 longbed in brown. It was lifted, and OMG did the exhaust sound good. However my parents did not think the 12MPG was a good idea for a first driver so that's how I got into the Mitsubishi Montero's. If I could find an honest non modified 80's Chevy/GMC shortbed 4x4 pickup I'd love to own one. My parents had an 82 K5 Blazer when I was growing up with the 6.2L Diesel engine and that thing rolled a lot of coal way before it was cool lol. My dad got 190K on it before it had the injector pump go bananas.
I'd also like an 80's Suzuki Samurai, but they to have gone insane in price and finding a clean stock well taken care of unit is like a needle in a haystack. The Daihatsu Rocky was another small 4x4 I always liked, but as soon as I saw them they all seemed to disappear.

Hate when this topic rears its ugly head. Immediately, start googling 912's for sale...lol. Probably the only vehicle left on my...would like to own...list. Yeah, there are certainly more beautiful, faster, exotic cars out there...but the 912 is just an unpretentious sexy little machine.
I've owned more vehicles than the years l've spent on this planet. Vehicle are just vehicles to me, enjoy them for a bit...and then they go down the road.
After a bit more thought...if a 67/69 mustang fell into my lap...

As for cars: Aside from my Disco, I currently own a 1977 Fiat Spider, a 1987 Saab 900 Turbo, and a 2012 Fiat 500 Abarth. I got rid of my BMW, otherwise I would have a 90's car too!
As for other vehicles, my other passion is for being on the water. I have a pair of sailboats, a kayak, a sailing dinghy, and am building what is referred to as a "Wherry". The Chesapeake Light Craft Expedition Wherry is what you would get if a kayak was able to mate with a racing shell. A very seaworthy decked boat that you row with a sliding seat
The sailboats are a Montgomery 17 that was built in 1984 and a GP14 that was built in 1962. The Kayak and Sailing dinghy are a Skin on Frame design from the pen of Dave Gentry,.

When I was first stationed in England back in ‘94 I purchased a 1967 Jaguar 420. It had an inline 6 cylinder petrol engine w/ dual SU carbs that was RHD. I’d get compliments from older Brits about how nice it was and how did a young Yank own it. Lol
I later shipped it to my next military assignment in California in ‘97 kinda/ sorta illegally for a 20 year old import car
. Man I loved driving that Jag in Cali! I would drive it from Antelope Valley going into and all around the Los Angeles area. Heads would turn watching me drive by in RHD Jag.
I ended up selling it in 2001 due to getting assigned back overseas. I sold for good money to a kid who eventually turned it into a low rider.
I sill like Jags to this day but I’ll stick with my Landy.
